Artist statement
Kyoko Takeuchi is a Japanese artist based in Atlanta. Her work is strongly influenced by Japanese art and crafts, kimono patterns, unique colors, and the interplay of light and shadow. Through self-expression, she explores art and reflects on the meaning of life through the act of creation. Her pieces focus on the essence of life itself, using black and gold leaf to express a range of emotions. Notably, her "Emotional Stem Series" features overlapping circles, while her "Life Series" highlights motifs of living creatures, particularly butterflies. In January 2024, she held a solo exhibition that showcased her unique perspective and techniques. The overlapping circles she depicts symbolize the stems of our emotions. Although the interior of a beautifully blooming flower's stem is hidden, when cut, its complexity and vital role become apparent—it transports nourishment and forms vibrant petals. Similarly, the stems of our emotions consist of the various feelings that arise from life experiences, intertwining to shape our lives. Takeuchi expresses this concept through her work, delving into the intricacies of our inner selves and the entanglement of emotions. Through her art, she explores the complexity of our inner worlds and the interconnectedness of our feelings.
